I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education (University of Victoria) and am affiliated to UBC’s Department of Physical Therapy. My research is inspired by my experiences as a physical therapist and by individuals with lived experience of neurological disability. I focus on optimizing recovery and promoting healthy living for people with neurological conditions, particularly stroke, across the continuum of care, from acute care and rehabilitation to community reintegration. Within the context of motor rehabilitation, I examine recovery from both clinical and real-world performance perspectives while accounting for the impact of non-motor symptoms. My work aims to address clinically relevant questions and bridge important evidence gaps through pragmatic, methodologically rigorous research, often using intensive repeated-measurement designs. Recognizing the heterogeneous and multifaceted nature of disability following neurological conditions, my research adopts an interdisciplinary approach that spans multiple domains of functioning and integrates expertise from diverse healthcare professions and research fields.
