Health and Mobility

The Centre for Aging SMART (Solutions for Mobility, Activity, Rehabilitation and Technology) at Vancouver Coastal Health seeks to positively impact the health of individuals—at every age. We connect our research with communities to promote bone and joint health, healthy aging, novel surgical solutions, and prevent falls and injuries.

We are a multi-disciplinary collaboration of researchers led by Co-Directors, Dr. Teresa Liu-Ambrose and Dr. Janice Eng.

Our clinicians and scientists tackle some of the most devastating and crippling problems currently facing BC and Canada’s healthcare system.

See the ways we support bone health, biomechanics, falls prevention,  biomaterials engineering, orthopaedics, and more in our labs.

The Centre for Aging SMART at VCH is a Senate approved research centre at the University of British Columbia and affiliated with Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute that brings together traditionally disparate areas of research into an interdisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, students, staff, and community partners to improve bone and joint health and promote active aging.

The Centre acknowledges with gratitude and respect that we are located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
